Many thanks to David Brennan, English teacher in Barra, for introducing this excellent grammar resource to me. It is a great online tool to practise grammar, from Infant 1 all the way to Class 11. David uses it for homework and, even better, there is no marking required by the teacher. Students enjoy it and you (and they) can track their progress. Just sign up for free!
Many thanks to Michael Francis, Head of Mathematics in Barra, for sharing this piece from the New York Times. The article also has a link to the excellent Stanford University site, https://www.youcubed.org/, which contains online courses for teachers as well as great resources for teaching mathematics.
In this TED Talk, Jo Boaler, a professor of mathematics at Stanford University, explains why mathematics is so traumatic for many people and shows a different way that people can relate to mathematics. She also shares the latest brain science to show the ways our brains process mathematics, the importance of visual learning and the importance of self belief to our learning and our experiences.
The University of London, UCL Institute of Education, Dyslexia International, is offering a six-week course of 4-6 hours per week online. The course is for teachers to learn why some children have so much difficulty with reading and writing, often called 'dyslexia', and to learn more about best practice in teaching literacy to all in light of recent scientific discoveries. The course is free or, if you wish to receive a certificate, costs US$29.00
